Week 1 Synthesis - What is Literacy?

Thanks to Amy S, Margi P, & Jasmine R. from last semester for giving myself (James) and Jamie a template to follow for our first week. We both had fun going back and forth with each over the weekend to pull together our thoughts and what to present and how to present it. Neither of us had ever used thinglink before, but we were both happy at being able to include so many of our classmates quotes, and Kathy's 13 literacies graphic. Looking forward to reading these synthesēs for future weeks.

Many thanks to Amy S and Margi P whose own work (Week 11 Synthesis + PLN Slambook) inspired me to try out this presentation format, using Thinglink to annotate an image, therefore creating an interactive poster. I really like how clean and organized this type of poster is. When it comes to synthesizing posts, I always find it challenging to choose just a few quotes from my peers who have so many interesting and insightful things to say. So, this synthesis format allowed me to include various excerpts from everyone's responses, while still keeping the entire visual neat and organized.

I chose to compose this week's synthesis in a Smore poster. I personally find Smore accessible and easy to use and understand. I like having everything in one place, and the layouts are really fun =)

I choose to use Piktochart because I think it creates a really nice visual. The blocks of color it allows for and fun shapes and icons/graphics display information in a fun and aesthetically pleasing manner. Ever since I was asked to create on during Search and the Information Landscape I have been using Piktochart to create info graphics, I have even had some of the 6th graders use it to create and presetn information.
